TikTok is the app we all rely on to give us life-hacks, food recipes and beauty tips.
It’s easy to go on to the video-sharing platform for a quick look and then you realise you’ve been scrolling for hours.
And while there are many helpful and useful hacks on there, there are some you maybe shouldn’t try at home.
DIY beauty hacks and procedures videos are often shared on the app but some seem a little too good to be true and one woman has revealed why, writes The Mirror.
Australian Big Brother contestant Tilly Whitfeld has recently warned others about trying these things at home after her attempt at an acupuncture technique she had seen on TikTok, went horribly wrong.
The 21-year-old from Sydney has shared photos of the disastrous results – which saw her rushed to hospital with scarring on her face and go temporarily blind in one eye.
The incident occurred just before she was about to go into the Big Brother house and as such she was often spotted on the show wearing a blue clay mask on her face.
Viewers had a number of questions about the face mask, so Tilly has taken to Instagram to clear things up and warn others not to make similar mistakes.
In a post, alongside several photos of the damage she caused to her face, she wrote: “For those asking why I have my blue clay face mask on continuously throughout the show this is what my face looked like a week prior to entering the house hence why I always have makeup on and my skin is always covered.
“This is the result of attempting to remove scarring I inflicted on myself trying to replicate an at-home beauty procedure I saw on a TikTok video two months before big brother. Who bloody else would manage to do such a thing?”
She added: “Please please don’t try any DIY or at-home beauty procedures, I ended up in hospital with temporary loss of vision in my eye due to swelling and was very sick from the infection, not to mention my face was somewhat unrecognisable.

Tilly later shared a few updated her post, explaining that she had scaring deep below the surface of her skin and dark pigmentation. She clarified for those who thought it was just a rash, that it was anything but.
“I literally shoved needles deep into my skin,” she admitted.
People in the comments were incredibly supportive, with one person writing: “Far out Tilly!!!! You poor thing. Good on you though for being such a trooper and bringing awareness to not try everything you see online.”
Another replied: “So brave sharing complete honesty with the world!”
