Elie Saab Drops Out of Paris Couture Week
Elie Saab is pulling out of Paris Couture Week, which begins on January 25. The designer will not show his Spring 2021 collection, citing the increasing COVID-19 cases in Lebanon. Elie Saab Jr said the collection was complete but explained that the shooting logistic was ‘quite complicated,’ so he decided to take a small break and wait for the right time to shoot it and to present it to the public.
Harry Brant Dies at 24
Harry Brant, the son of supermodel Stephanie Seymour, has passed away at the age of 24. The model died of a drug overdose following years of battling addiction. “Our hearts are shattered. Harry wanted to overcome his addiction and was just days away from re-entering rehab” read a statement from the family.
“Harry was not just our son; he was also a wonderful brother, loving grandson, favorite uncle, and a caring friend. He was a creative, loving, and powerful soul that brought light into so many people’s hearts. He was truly a beautiful person inside and out”. Brant made appearances in Vogue, wrote for Interview Magazine, and featured in campaigns for Balmain.
Designers Donned at Biden’s Inauguration
Joe Biden’s 2021 Presidential Inauguration was ripe with colorful fashion looks from around the globe. First Lady Jill Biden wore a custom blue coat and dress from emerging NY label, Markarian. Vice President Kamala Harris wore a Christopher John Rogers ensemble with pearls by Wilfredo Rosado.
Former First Lady, Michelle Obama, wore a monochrome plum ensemble from Sergio Hudson, with a turtleneck, wide-leg trousers, coat, and matching belt. Amanda Gorman, the 22-year old Poet Laureate, went viral for her poem The Hill We Climb, wearing a bright Prada outfit. Musical guests, including Lady Gaga and JLo, wore Schiaparelli and Chanel, respectively.
Men’s Fashion Weeks Begin in Paris and Milan
Men’s Fashion Weeks have begun digitally in Milan and Paris. Designers such as Prada, Fendi, and Louis Vuitton showcased their latest collections, each house embracing bright colors for the season of menswear. Virgil Abloh, the Creative Director of Louis Vuitton, debuted his F/W 21 collection, budded ‘Ebonics / Snake Oil / The Black Box / Mirror, Mirror’ on a digital runway on YouTube.
Fendi combined a series of bright shades in an array of oversized parkas, men’s tailored staples, and knee-length shorts. The monochrome ensembles feature an homage to the artist Noel Feilding and his abstract embroideries. Prada chose to combine vintage prints in shades of purple, blue, yellow, and red on trousers, jumpers, and coats.
Dior Men’s Collaborates with Peter Doig
Dior Men’s is collaborating with the Scottish painter Peter Doig for its Fall 21 collection. The artist is best known for his living figurative landscape pieces. “Paintings with fascinating colors condense and reflect powerful meaning with a singular, poignant vision, in particular in terms of the relationship between mankind and nature,” Kim Jones said of Doig.
The collection features bright shades of yellow, purple, and orange – blended with neutral tones and painter-esque splatter patterns. Headwear, including leather helmets, berets, and bowler hats, was a popular choice. The collection debuted on January 22 during Paris Men’s Fashion Week.
