These celebrities think they’re rocking haute couture — but they’re actually hot messes.
From sporting tacky lingerie-inspired looks to bringing back the awful “whale tail” of the early 2000s, A-listers are getting an “F” letter grade from just about anyone with an ounce of taste, really, for their flagrant fashion faux pas.
Read on for today’s tawdriest trends — and the stars who just can’t stop wearing them.
Bra tops
Underwear as outerwear was edgy — in the 1980s. Now, it’s time for the ever-brassy bra top to have its moment on the fashion chopping block. Someone tell Kourtney Kardashian, 42, who brought in the New Year bust-first, draping her chest in a gaudy bedazzled bra rather than an actual shirt. The side-eye-worthy style echoed the $690 denim Prada bra that actress Emily Ratajkowski, 30, infamously sported over the summer. Megan Fox, 35, a bra-as-shirt repeat offender, regularly rocks the undies as a top — always turning heads, but for all the wrong reasons.
The whale tail
The whale tail trend is a fashion fail of the 2000s that’s now getting an undesirable second act, thanks to otherwise stylish sirens such as Teyana Taylor, 31, Kim Kardashian, 41, and her estranged husband’s rumored girlfriend Julia Fox, 31 — who was recently spotted donning the déclassé duds on a date night with Kanye West in NYC Tuesday. G-string underwear serve as the centerpiece to the look, which gives the world a major peek at the panty straps as they snugly hug the hips of the wardrobe wrongdoer. The fanny-focused fad has amassed well over 50 million views on TikTok — but maybe A-listers shouldn’t take their fashion tips from the app that gave us the milk crate challenge.
Cleavage cutouts
Peek-a-boo is a fun children’s game. But peek-a-boob is a tasteless style trend being popularized by so-called tastemakers such as Bella Hadid, 25, Kendall Jenner, 26, and Kate Hudson, 42. Cleavage cutouts, meant to offer an alluring flash of skin, often make an upscale outfit look undone and inexpensive. Rather than trying to make cutouts work, fashion influencers should cut this mess out altogether.
Sheer body stockings
What do Megan Thee Stallion, 26, Larsa Pippen, 47, and Kylie Jenner, 24, all have in common? A yucky yen for sporting sheer bodystockings. The gossamer and skintight ensemble is tragically reemerging as a wardrobe staple among celebrities and socialites. A revealing reboot of the clingy jumpsuit Britney Spears popularized in her “Toxic” music video in 2004, the see-through bodystocking leaves little to the imagination — and also leaves little hope for the future of upscale fashion. Last year, Spears made the toxic choice again when she took to Instagram in a velvet leopard version.
Corset tops
Topping off our fashion flops is the tummy-churning corset top. The girdle-like shirt — which has gone viral on social media thanks to style influencers including Normani, 25, Dua Lipa, 26, and Irina Shayk, 36 — does much in the way of cinching one’s waist, but does little in bringing any class to one’s look.
