Despite growing efforts, it’s still largely undefined with false labeling by brands, little-to-no regulations, and vague yet complicated terminology. Known for its heavy use of plastics, harmful materials, and waste production, the cosmetics industry is a big contributor to environmental destruction. According to Zero Waste Week, an environmental campaign to reduce landfill waste, the beauty industry as a collective produces more than 120 billion packaging units a year.
