One person was killed in a shooting inside a Gilroy jewelry store Thursday afternoon, police and a person near the scene said.
Officers responding to reports of shots fired found one gunshot victim at Littlejohn’s Fine Jewelry on Monterey Street around 1 p.m., said Sgt. Lamonte Toney of the Gilroy Police Department.
The victim died at the scene, police said. The Santa Clara County coroner’s office had not identifed the victim as of Thursday evening.
“This is an isolated incident, and there is no on-going threat to the public,” police said in a statement.
Danny Midstokke, the pit master at BBQ 152, located directly across from Littlejohn’s Fine Jewelry, said he saw an army of police officers race into the jewelry store around 1 p.m.
“They went running into the place and about 10 seconds later they came out with a guy in handcuffs,” Midstokke said. “They got him really quick.”
Gilroy police is “not releasing any information” about a suspect or arrest, Toney said.
The BBQ pit master said his restaurant patio was full of customers when the shooting occurred.
