After two decades of modeling, Marianne Fonseca knew her next move needed to involve honoring the place she came from, Brazil, and she found a beautiful way to pay homage with her newly-launched body care line.
“I wanted to do something of course after modeling and people kept asking me, ‘Do you have a plan? What are you going to do? Are you going to be an actress?’ because people always expect that from models. I was like, ‘I think I just want to tell the story of my country,’” she explained in a video on Instagram.
What sparked her idea to get into body care was the lack of targeted body items in the United States. “Sometimes I would look for creams and body care products and I wouldn’t find what I liked. In Brazil, it was the opposite. We always take care of our bodies, we are always about the body care and body routines so it was a natural thing for me to create a brand that was focused on body care. We [use] native ingredients that only grow in Brazil.”
Fonseca created her brand, gente, along with partner Nathalia Maia, an accomplished entrepreneur, with formulas targeted to create visible results when paired with at-home lymphatic drainage messages (which have long stood as one of Brazil’s most popular body treatments).
The line, which is also inspired by the colors, culture and vibrancy of the people of Brazil, kicked off with two products. The first is the Lymphatic Drainage Effect, which is a sculpting cream that activates and facilitates the lymphatic system to flush unwanted toxins from the body. Its active ingredients stimulate microcirculation, which detoxes the cells. The second item is the Bye Bye Cellulite Cream which firms and brightens the skin thanks to the active ingredients which target areas of stubborn body fat.
Each product features ingredients inherent to Brazil such as açaí, guaraná fruit, cacao, mango, and shea butter.
“If you spend 10 minutes on your face, why not spend 10 minutes on your body? the model shared in her video. “You’re going to see the difference; you’re going to see smoother skin.”
To celebrate the launch, Fonseca brought a bit of her background in fashion to the beauty scene by hosting a model-filled party during New York Fashion Week.
The bash took place at private member club Zero Bond on Sept. 12, where Fonseca and Maia were joined by famed DJ Diplo and model/DJ Chantel Jeffries, models Frida Aasen, Joy Corrigan, Tika Camaj and more, where they partied to music by DJ Jordan Emanuel and sipped on Rumor Rosé.
Fonseca thanked everyone for their support writing on Instagram, “Me and Nathalia are very grateful!!”
