VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Greenbrier wasn’t the only Hampton Roads mall hit by jewelry thieves on Wednesday.
Virginia Beach police say a jewelry store inside Lynnhaven Mall was targeted in a “smash and grab” larceny. Chesapeake police labeled their case a “robbery,” but Virginia Beach police later clarified they’re being labeled larcenies because employees weren’t threatened.
A spokesperson for VBPD did not share the name of the store in a press release, but it happened at REEDS Jewelers at 1:17 p.m., within hours of the other robbery.
The Greenbrier robbery was at SK Diamonds around 5:42 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Police haven’t confirmed the two robberies are related, but photos from both scenes show what appear to be the same shoes one suspect. In both cases, two suspects smashed into display cases, but didn’t appear to have weapons other than hammers they used to break the cases.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the VBPD Detective Bureau at 757-385-4101. VBPD says it’s working with Chesapeake police.
