A couple’s chance encounter on a flight from Cleveland to Charlotte last year ended in wedded bliss at Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Friday.
“Love is in the air,” the airport posted on Twitter at 12:55 p.m. with heart and airplane emojis and pictures of the bride and groom at their CLT wedding. “Today they said ‘I do,’ in our Atrium then hopped on a Florida bound plane to fly off into the sunset together.”
When they boarded Flight 880 from Cleveland to Charlotte, the couple “shared an instant connection, talking nonstop through the 90-minute flight,” the airport posted on Facebook.
“When they arrived at #CLTairport, he asked for her phone number, according to the Facebook post. ‘Oh, I was actually going to give you mine,’ she replied.
“It was love at first flight,” the airport posted. “Wishing the newlyweds a lifetime of adventures.”
The airport’s post drew scores of comments wishing the couple well, and comments from people who said they, too, met their future spouse at the airport.
“What a great love story!” a woman posed. “I hope y’all have a Lifetime of happiness together.”
Bride: Fate brought them together
Bride Elizabeth Evers told The Charlotte Observer on Saturday that she and her husband, Adam Johnson, “absolutely believe it was fate” that brought them together on that Mother’s Day 2021 flight.
It was fate for two reasons, she told the Observer in a Facebook message.
“Adam was actually going to change his flight to an earlier one that day but it was overbooked,” she said.
“And I was originally sitting in a different row on the opposite side of the aisle but moved to the row on the other side of the aisle from him when I saw that it was empty.”
They grew up in different parts of the Cleveland area and were returning to Charlotte after visiting for Mother’s Day, “which I normally don’t do,” Evers said.
At the time of the flight, Johnson lived in Denver in eastern Lincoln County and Evers said she lived in LoSo, as Charlotte’s Lower South End neighborhood is called.
They now live in Rock Hill.
Evers said she and a friend own Loo Loo’s Hair Salon in South End. Johnson works for Gulf & Ohio Railways, she said.
“CLT was AMAZING at helping us make our day a reality and it turned out better than we could have imagined,” Evers said, referring to the airport. “We couldn’t be happier!”
